Avalanche Character Profile
Avalanche is the adventurous free-spirit of the gang, and no-one can get his twin brother Woddles'
knickers in a knot quite like he can! Avalanche didn't stumble upon his special recipe in a secret
kitchen or laboratory, he was just doing what he does best carving up the snow capped mountains!
And the more snow he carved up, the tastier his treats became!
Avalanche has a special gift for extreme sports, meeting people (like Snowy!) and churning out snow
cones to get the party started and although he may not always be around, when a party calls he's first
on the scene. After all that's what life's about isn't it? PARTIES!!!
There's no mountain too steep, no sky too high and no party too big for our perilous penguin.
Fun Facts
Boy can we swim! Our average speed under-water is 24 kph.
Although penguins are birds, we can't fly!
The Emperor penguin is the word's largest penguin species. They stand at around 1.1m tall and weigh in at 23-40kgs!
Penguins have a gland that separates salt from the water they drink.
There are 17 different species of penguin found all around the world.
The Emperor penguin can live for up to 40 years!
Waddling is the most energy-efficient way for an animal with short legs to walk.
Tricky tongues! A penguins tongue is covered by lots of spiky spines that point back into the throat. This ensures the fish they catch don't escape!
The basic diet for a penguin consists of krill and other small fish.
Most penguins will spend 75% of their life submerged in water!
A typical dry snow avalanche travels around 90-130 kph. An avalanche reaches these speeds within five seconds after it begins!
Party Hints And Tips
When planning your party, there are no right or wrongs. But there are things you can do to make sure you have all bases covered. Here are just a couple of the things we do to make the perfect party perfect. Remember, these are just a few ideas; the rest is up to you!
Games
Fun fun for everyone!
There are a million-and-one games to play at parties, it all depends on what is right for you! We feel
no party is complete without at least a game or two, but as fun as they are, they can also be a bit
tricky...
Think about who you have invited. Will they all be able to play? And hey, think about how many people
you have invited, you don't want one game to take hours to play. If there are a lot of people, think of
a game that has multiple people playing at once like dodgeball for instance, or a game with a quick
rotation of turns, like pin the tail on the donkey.
Chess is not a good party game!
Why not try a wacky-relay? All you need is a bunch of crazy clothes (maybe mum and dads old stuff? Ask first!) and instead of handing over a baton to your team-mate, before you take-off you have to put on a new piece of clothing!
When, Where, HOW???
Too much fun, not too long
Think of a way to keep the party going. No-one likes a party to drag! A good way to do this is to
sit down with your party-planners and think of how many activities you want to do and how long they may
take. As tempting as it may be, try not to make the party too long. You would rather have a jam-packed
party than run out of things to do. Leave people wanting more, not wanting to leave!
How Polite!
Please and thank you go a long way!
Remember your manners! Sometimes Cornelius tends to forget his, but we know he means well he just
gets a bit carried away with all the fun. Without your friends and family there would be no party, and
without a party there is no us! Always remember to thank people if they bring gifts or help in any way.
Sometimes it can be nice to write a little thank you note to pop into the loot bags for the end of the
party. That way your friends will have a little memento from your special day!
Tasty Treats!
Remember, be creative! Food is a great way to keep the energy levels up for your party. Instead of one
big banquet, why not try little snack breaks between activities? This way you can keep the party goers
happy without being too full to play!
You can even think of crazy ways to mix and match your Cool Creations. For example, have you ever
wondered what would happen if Snowy and Mikey Martian were in the kitchen together? Did someone say
THICKSHAKES???
Most Importantly...
HAVE FUN!!!
Recipes
Fun and easy ice treats
Juice, cordial or soft drink flavourings (such as soda stream) can be added to shaved ice to make delicious treats.
Snow Cones
Add your favourite juice or cordial to shaved ice, or use several flavours to create a rainbow.
Ice Blocks
Scoop shaved ice into plastic ice blocks moulds until approximately half full. Press the ice down firmly with your fingers so that it moulds into the shape of the ice block.
Insert a paddle pop stick so that approximately two thirds of the stick is uncovered. Scoop more shaved ice around the stick and pack firmly. Add chilled juice or cordial a little at a time and then slowly remove the ice block from the mould.
Water Ices
Shave ice into a cup. Add chilled cordial and stir. Add a small amount of water to obtain the desired consistency.
